  1. This picture is a reflection on death. The focus is a bridge, which is a metaphor for death in many cultures. In this 30-second exposure, you can see wispy images of people who walked across while I was filming. Furthermore, we are on the east side of the bridge facing west, the direction of the setting sun. The ancient Egyptians built their pyramid tombs on the west side of the Nile to parallel the daily "death" of the sun. To go west was to die.

    I took this picture using an infrared filter. Infrared fascinates me. It's like... a window to a whole parallel realm. It occupies our same latitude, longitude, and altitude, and yet, it somehow lies beneath our ability to see. A dark side that may pass unnoticed, but is always with us.

    And finally, if you are familiar with this Denver neighborhood, you know on the far side of the bridge, there is a huge sign up the hill, advertising a mortuary. My camera and I will revisit this area again soon, and I will refine the ideas I began exploring here.
